WINDOWS XP Repair Install — Here’s the why when and how. The most common and effective use of the repair procedure for me has been restoring a users system to new hardware with the original hard disk from a failed piece of equipment. For instance your 4 year old small form-factor Compaq desktops proprietary power supply fails, and there is no good replacement in sight. A repair will allow you to move the disk to a new machine, run repair, and short of applying microsoft updates, your system will be back right where you left off!!
Many users ask if this procedure can be used to repair malware, adware, virus etc. and unfortunately while it is possible — I definitely do not recommend using these procedures for this purpose. Any time the integrity of your system has been compromised from bad sources — You’ll never be 100% certain that a repair will eradicate the malicious code. It may repair the files that were tampered with, however the root cause often still remains and will rear it’s ugly head when you least expect it. Thanks to MVP Michael Stevens’ Here’s a link to a very detailed description of the entire process!
